Cultural Arts Center of Frederick County
The Cultural Arts Center of Frederick County is an arts resource of the Frederick Arts Council. It is located at 15 West Patrick Street in historic downtown Frederick in an old McCrory's dimestore site. The building, with its red and purple banners, is across from the Weinberg Center for the Arts and next door to the newly restored FSK Hotel with Maryland Ensemble Theatre located in the lower level. The old dime store, with its unique L-shape, allowed shoppers to enter on Patrick, eat at the diner, and leave on Market Street. It now has some additional features which are being used in a unique way. Just inside the Patrick Street door you will find small offices and meeting rooms, beyond that you find a 120-seat Black Box Theatre. The Black Box is in high demand because of its versatility, intimacy and relatively low cost. Old diner booths are put to good use as actors' makeup stations. Turning at the inside "L" corner towards Market Street, you will come into the Rehearsal Room which at various times of the day, week or month is configured as lobby, party room, acting lab or scene shop. Heading on out towards Market Street, you will pass through the Studio, which, with mirrored walls and dance floor, houses dance classes and rehearsals, and occasionally films.
