An Evening of Decadent Desserts Planned for Jan. 29th

January 17, 2012

An Evening of Decadent Desserts,” billed as Frederick’s most exciting, spirit-lifting winter event, will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the Frederick Arts Council, “Decadent Desserts” will feature 11 of the area’s top pastry chefs in a spirited culinary competition to create the most delicious dessert items.   Participants include A Better Choice Bakery, Canapés, Carroll Street Café, Gourmet with Paula Catering, The Comus Inn, L.J’s and the Kat Lounge, Jefferson Pastry Shop, Home at Braddock Inn, Moxie Bakery & Café, Patowmack Farm, Buddha’s Baker, and more.

The event will carry a Roaring 20s theme, and feature singer Connie Guy and the Hood College jazz band, playing hits from the Charleston era. Other highlights will include strolling flappers, faux cigarette girls, gangsters, classic cars, and rare appearances by Mae West and W.C. Fields.  That evening original artwork by Frederick artist Yemi will also be raffled off.

Father Leo Patalinghug, celebrity chef and author of “Grace Before Meals,” will provide a live cooking demonstration.  Patalinghug and the Grace Before Meals movement has been featured on the front page of the Washington Post, Fox and Friends, ABC News, Denver Post, Martha Stewart Radio, CBS Morning Show as well as Food Network’s hit show, Throw Down with Bobby Flay, where Fr. Leo defeated world renown chef, Bobby Flay, in a steak fajita cooking competition.

Artisan cheeses and gourmet coffee will also be served, as silent movies flicker overhead. A cash bar will sell popular 20s-era alcoholic drinks.  As an added opportunity, downtown restaurants Acacia, Brewer’s Alley and Isabella’s will offer to “Decadent Desserts” attendees a 2-for-1 lunch or dinner special.

Tickets for the event, which will take place at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, are priced at just $35 each. Only 150 tickets will be sold.  Proceeds from this event benefit the 19th Annual Frederick Festival of Arts, scheduled for June 2-3 along Carroll Creek Linear Park.  For tickets and event information, contact the Frederick Arts Council at (301) 662-4190.
